Product Stewardship and Consumer Protection

The European chemical industry is highly committed to contribute to a sustainable and responsible development of nanotechnology-based applications under the core principles and commitments of the Responsible Care Global Charter.

Therefore, Cefic members only market products, if health and environmental safety can be assured on the basis of all available scientific and technological information. Consistent with the current practice, they provide their customers and logistics partners with information about the safe transportation, storage, use, processing and disposal of their products.

Every (new) technology – such as nanotechnology – may involve potential risks. Changed substance properties due to the size of nanoparticles and possibly resulting changes in toxicological and eco-toxicological effects are currently being studied intensively by industry, government agencies, academic and other research institutions.
